Pet Shedding
We are often asked at Sioux Nation how to stop a pet from shedding. Unfortunately shedding is part of a pet's natural hair coat maintenance and cannot be stopped, however it can be reduced. Assuming there are no underlying health issues, the major ways to reduce shedding are through diet and grooming.
The amount a pet will shed will vary depending on the type of dog food they are eating. Foods properly supplemented with vitamins, nutrients, and omega-3 and -6 fatty acids tend to reduce the shedding, like the iVet pet food that we carry. If your pet is happy with his current food we also offer vitamin and fatty acid supplements that can be added to any diet.
In the end, no diet can make up for thorough grooming. Grooming removes your pet's excess hair before it ends up on the carpets and furniture.
De-Shedding Tools
We recommend the FURminator deshedding tools and client response has been excellent. There is no magic bullet to eliminate shedding but proper diet and regular grooming can reduce it to manageable levels.
